Opening of the exhibition “Between the Mediterranean and Nihon”

The exhibition “Between the Mediterranean and Nihon” invites us to rediscover the poetic force of fragmented utilitarian ceramics. This exhibition, curated by Lluc Queralt Baiges, brings together small pieces of found pieces —humble remnants of everyday life— that become “found brushstrokes” and form new works of art. The project arises from a dialogue between Mediterranean and Japanese culture, highlighting the common patterns and similar sensitivity towards the land and the beauty of imperfection that they share. The figure of Soetsu Yanagi, father of the mingei movement and defender of the value of the anonymous craftsman and the beauty of useful objects, runs through this exhibition, questioning where art ends and craftsmanship begins. The ceramic fragments act as shared footprints, making the crumbled clay of the Mediterranean and Japan dialogue in the same creative pulse.
