The year 2025 begins with an air of change, shaking up previously established maps. In an increasingly unequal world, the fortune of eight white men exceeds that of half the world’s population. Wealth flows to global financial centers, without return, while neoliberalism does not satisfy the basic needs of the majority and the political vacuum favors the advance of far-right populism.
In this context, walls and fences proliferate in Europe and the world, with migration policies based on violence and fear. Despite the freedom of movement of capital, millions of refugees risk their lives fleeing conflicts, poverty, persecution and environmental disasters.
With an evocative and reflective gaze, Roger Grasas documents the geographies of the border, emphasizing the stories of migrants – authentic heroines of the present – while unmasking the spheres of power that provoke and at the same time criminalize the migration phenomenon. The “walls” project demonstrates that the supposed “refugee crisis” is, in reality, a crisis of our fundamental values.
